Welcome to the Cinque Terre Wine School, where the rich tapestry of Ligurian wine and culinary traditions comes alive. Perched above the shimmering waters of Monterosso al Mare, our family-run school offers more than just wine tastings—it provides an immersive journey into the heart of Cinque Terre's heritage.
The Location
The region of Liguria is steeped in history and renowned for its beauty, stunning coastline and some of the best food and wine you are likely to find in Italy. All over the area you will see olive groves, lemon orchards and grape vines situated on the terraces on the hillsides, which are cultivated with great care and at times with difficulty.
The warm moist climate and the sea breeze offer an ideal environment for crops to grow, consequently, Liguria boasts some delicious and unique olive oils, liquors and wines. Food and drink combination is so important to the Ligurian people that they have spent many generations perfecting the ideal wines to accompany each traditional dish.
The Cinque Terre Wine School is the perfect place to learn about the skills of food combination. Set in the heart of Monterosso overlooking the sea, our wine school offers a relaxing environment with stunning views over the sea.
The Wine
The wines we will serve will all be typical to the region in order to offer the best understanding of Ligurian foods and wines and the suitability to compliment each dish.
You will try:
- Two local Cinque Terre/Ligurian Red Wines
- Two Local Cinque Terre White Wines
- One Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà wine
The Light Lunch
Liguria is renowned for its fresh fish dishes, rich olive oils, herbs, lemons and types of breads such as Foccacia. The right types of wines to compliment these foods creates an incredible taste experience.
Our chef will prepare a good selection of some of our most famous traditional Ligurian bites which will be served during the wine tasting.. The talk will also include a summary about the different types of foods and how food pairing is done the Ligurian way.
Our Wine School
On arrival at our Cinque Terre wine school you will be greeted with a warm welcome and traditional Ligurian hospitality.
A great place to meet new friends in a beautiful location while enjoying our local wines and speciality dishes. Our Wine Tasting Lessons offer an insight into pairing Ligurian food and wines and understanding when and with what each wine would be appropriate.
Jonathan and his family will spend time with you sharing their extensive knowledge and experience explaining about the history of the Cinque Terre wines and how they have evolved over the years.
The different methods used including age old traditional methods, which in some places are still used even today, in order to acquire the unique flavours which make Ligurian wines so special and also which foods would be the most suitable accompaniment..
This is a very relaxing and sociable afternoon, where you can enjoy some delicious Ligurian food and wine tasting in a beautiful location. A wonderful way to learn about the Ligurian culture in a region where food and drink have been such an important part of our culture and lifestyle for so many generations
